Stealing the name and leading people to believe JPL is back. Rolling Eyes

It's a bit silly.

It's genius but morally incorrect. I say it'd smart because whoever it is going to get anyone still searching JPL pulled into the thought that this is related. So the 11,000 members who might go searching might now be traffic for him. However, as smart as it is to get that traffic, it's obvious it isn't really to us and pretty rotten to steal jpl's popularity.

I think you're over thinking it. It is clearer than that.

Certain people who didn't want JPL to go have taken it upon themselves to use the name.

Just wait for the website. Laughing Laughing

You think someone is going to make a JPL website too? Like I said smart for attracting attention and horrible for being a thief. I only say its smart because in this world of "Likes, views, and retweets" you get more of a following.

It has just been confirmed to me by one of the 5 members via Twitter DM that they have intentions of bring JPL back.

The member who messaged me is actually one a respect and is a genuinely nice person so I'll keep them anonymous:

''Our mission is not to compete or try and take down other sites. We just want to coexist in the community. We are not going to operate under the idea that only us should be successful and others should fail.''

''Thank you. It will be some time before the actual site is up, but our plan is to honor what came before us''
''We are never looking for beef with other sites, we hope we can interact with others as one''

WHOA! So what would that mean for JPP if a new JPL is formed, would you merge? Bring back all the saved info and start over there or would they be separate entities? Is that member a former member of JPL, just curious...

Other projects, no.

The Encyclopedia is safe. I dont know why people think its 'gone forever and nobody can get it back'. It's backed up on a private link.

Well, what if it never gets released back to us? We dont have a time line, and Ty had said until he thought the community was ready. So when would that be? I'm not saying its gone for good just that for must of us we have no idea when we'll see it again, 6 months, 2 years, or maybe never as the timeline we all imagine I'd guess.

Sorry I dont follow, running what? The new JPL, JPP, or something else?

I'm not being a jerk, our little argument behind us, I'm literally just saying that this is literally what he said:

"Encyclopedia is to be under lock and key for a very long time until the fandom basically can handle it I guess? I don't know how to phrase it entirely. The thing is though, people have their personal head canons and that's fine and all that."

Someone saved some of the last posts on JPL and this was one of them. So I'm just saying that could be a long time from now just from the fact he said that directly and in the mean time no one has a "decent" reference for JP related info.

Why is there a hush hush about this new JPL thing, and why can't we know who's behind it?

LK and Nublar7 are two of the members.

The other members of the consortium probably signed NDA's or some shit. Laughing

It hasn't been gone that long, so I'd assume we all remember it just fine.

Still, looking at it again is always nostalgic.

I'd die of happiness. I found it on this archive thing. It has different posts saved and the main page and some encyclopedia articles. It's very nostalgic.

Short version: Some people just want JPL back, and 5 of them are trying to bring it back. It's currently got a Twitter, and eventually they want to make a website and a forum .While they may be members here, this project is not affiliated with us, and the Portal will stay regardless of what happens. I think that sums it up. Very Happy

So with the fighting and stuff hopefully over, what would our members like to see from the Portal moving forward, honestly?

Pretty much what we have been talking about. Beyond my and Spiegel's jabs at Ty, he did explain several problems he thinks he has with this forum. I mean that is really the core of the argument, was this forum's issues, and I think Ty got worked into it somehow because the encyclopedia(?) and the whole Ty pity party thing and so on and so forth, and then it just spiraled from there. Sort of like, I want an encyclopedia, but we can't because the almighty lord above TY said so. These sort of problems.

Anyway, I do want an encyclopedia, but really I just want more to do. Portal is just a forum, and I get really bored with it easily. I want more than that. JPLegacy was huge, with a big website and several things to do, the encyclopedia, the forum, news, downloads, a gallery of all the games and movies and books and toys. Even if you don't want all that the forum seemed to be quite a lot larger. I also want a more active... everything. The staff, I don't even know who some of them are. It just doesn't feel involved. It was all Levine until he retired, and now... who knows? No one person seems to be doing anything, which is good and bad. I'm not really sure what to say here, something's just... off.

6 core people but also receiving help from others. All good people who only want to try and restore the good memories and feels of JPL. Will it be exactly the same? No, that's impossible, the old version is gone. Rebuilt from scratch with similar elements(one element that has already been mentioned in this thread) and some new things. We already have a couple of exciting new ideas in the pipeline.

The rest of the group will be unveiled at a later point, but I feel we have a tremendous team capable of honoring the old JPL in the right way. If we fail it is on us and will never take away from what the original JPL had going for it. Our attitude from day one was to create a place for the fans by the fans. We have no intention to compete or back stab or anything else like that, we only want to coexist and continue to add new things for Jurassic fans. The Jurassic community as a whole is the most important thing to us, there won't be any walls on our sides. In fact we will constantly promote other sites like this one and hope that there could be fun future crossover projects to continue to only strengthen this community. We have no desire to be #1 or anything like that, we only want to exist.
