It looks like Peter Jackson might direct Justice League Dark.

What??

That was my reaction when first finding out about this. Last I checked, Doug Liman was lined up to direct a Justice League Dark movie, and then Andy Muschietti. At first, I thought it made no sense considering that Jackson doesn't really have any interest in either Marvel or DC, and why give a project of this kind to someone who wasn't a fan of the source material? But the article makes some pretty good points, bringing his horror movie years into account.

I remember reading an earlier rumour after the fall-out of BvS, Warner Bros were seriously considering hiring Peter Jackson to direct the whole of Justice League in Zack Snyder's place. Considering that six of his films are epic ensemble pieces in a fantastical setting dealing with multiple larger-than-life races and demonic evil forces, I wonder if it might have been better for it.

Ironically, I have a friend who is a huge fan of Constantine, and isn't too much of a fan of Peter Jackson post-LOTR. I can just imagine him not taking this news as well as other DC fans. Razz

It has all come full circle.

Justice League was knocked out of it's top spot by Disney/Pixar's Coco on the 5 day holiday weekend.

And so far, it's made just under $483 million.

This was supposed to be the DCEU version of 'The Avengers' so for this movie to make such a relatively modest profit so for is sad.

Yeah.

If they had no Batman v Superman, no Suicide Squad (just call it Batman: Arkham City) and put Flash, Aquaman, and possibly Cyborg solo movies as well as a Superman sequel BEFORE their grand team up movie, I think its a safe bet that Justice League would have had a much greater box office taking. They got Wonder Woman right, at least. Small favors all things considered, but better than nothing.

It looks like WB head honchos could have delayed Justice League, but refused to do so.

WB also wanted to fire Zack Snyder after BvS didn't perform as well as they hoped, but they couldn't because of how the pigeonholed themselves schedule wise.

Not only that, but there's a chance that he could be back in the second MCU Spider-Man movie as The Vulture so that's off the table.

And Justice League was FAR more micromanaged by WB then we ever thought.

Even if this makes a profit, the damage done to the brand as a cinematic universe will take a years to repair. Oh, sure. Standalone (mostly) movies will be good but it's not going to be a true cinematic universe for some time.

Christopher Nolan says that the reason why the Dark Knight trilogy turned out so good was because he had more time to work on it then most superhero movies nowadays.

Quote wrote:
“That’s a privilege and a luxury that filmmakers aren’t afforded anymore. I think it was the last time that anyone was able to say to a studio, ‘I might do another one, but it will be four years’. There’s too much pressure on release schedules to let people do that now but creatively it’s a huge advantage. We had the privilege and advantage to develop as people and as storytellers and then bring the family back together,” he said.

It's almost 4 weeks and according to Box Office Mojo, Justice League has only made slightly over $572 million dollars.

That's just embarrassing. As a comparison, Jurassic World had an worldwide 3-day opening gross of $524.1 million. In other words, Jurassic World made most of JL's budget in 3 days.

Let that sink in.

Good luck with that. Anything that is not Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2, or the Matt Reeves Batman movie is up in the air at this point.

This may be an unpopular view to some, but I would like this to be! I've been one of the few who has championed Henry Cavill's turn as Superman since I first saw Man of Steel in the cinema. However word on his character contract seems to be in a tenuous position after JL underperformed like mad, since word about Superman cameoing in Shazam seems also prevelant and would be a "clean" way of using him without putting up another hundred plus million on a project in unsteady position. However, if he can have just one solo outing as the classic, un-Snydered Superman to close out his character before the inevitable Batman-led reboot, that would be great.

Steven DeKnight of Daredevil and Pacific Rim Uprising expresses interest in directing Man of Steel 2. I really like what he's done with the Daredevil series, and so I am cautiously optimistic regarding the Pacific Rim sequel, but like the first film I have a hunch it will underperform in America but just about break even in other parts of the world. And that's provided it's a good movie. We'll see if Warner Bros' takes his enthusiasm seriously enough to court him for the directing job.

In other, happier news Man of Steel actress Christina Ren has given birth to a son. Smile

I simply think that MOS and BVS had ruined this version of Superman beyond repair. Even if the Flashpoint movie somehow ret-cons the first MOS and much of BVS out of the timeline, it still won't make people forget the bad memories: I.E. Superman not trying to fight outside the city, saving as much innocent people as possible, etc. And unlike Fox with the X-Men, WB/the DCEU doesn't have enough goodwill with the GA and fans. Worse, too many people like MOS for this to be pulled off.

I saw the first 1/2 of MOS a few months back and for everything I liked, I saw 3-4 things I didn't like, if not hated. When Brad Jones reviewed Wonder Woman (which he really liked) he said that he wished that movie had kicked off the DCEU and not MOS.

I think if they had kickstarted the DCEU with Wonder Woman, and a Superman film that followed it's tone and writing quality and that of the Donner classic more faithfully, the conversations regarding DC would be very different indeed.

Lets' say about half of the people who saw Man of Steel liked the film on average, if Warner Bros believes its in their best interest to reintroduce Superman by way of a new actor and a new approach to the character then they will pursue it regardless of how many people liked MOS and BvS. Sony was able to do the same with Spider-Man with a lot of help from Marvel Studios, and Warner Bros is overall a better managed studio than Sony Pictures. They don't have to do Flashpoint to legitimize rebooting DC, they just need to transition into the next set of films like Shazam, Green Lantern Corps, The Batman and new iterations of the other iconic characters as calmly as humanly possible.
