Well, I wasn't giving too much hope on Barry to return. I know he was pretty likeable character and everyone got interested on him but he was pretty useless for the plot, maybe he'll get mentioned by Owen on JW2 as Colin said he wanted the friendship between them to grow.

Yeah, that's why I thought he may return. Also that quote from Frank about Wu is from today so it is up to date information : https://twitter.com/Sean_OConnell?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor

Nice to know the interview was made today. While Frank must not know much about JW2, it's still interesting to see, as I said, Wu probably was planned to come back since the start. So if he doesn't come back, something happened and they changed the script.

Justice Smith joins JW2 cast as an "young scientist": http://variety.com/2016/film/news/jurassic-world-sequel-justice-smith-1201931677/

Okay, I don't even need to know who the character is, just reading that he is a scientist makes me so excited and happy! Finally, the science guys are getting in! I'll probably love this character!

Some also speculate that he can be Arby or "Clint".

We've known for some time that Jurassic World 2 is going to have animatronics, and being the experienced filmmaker that he is J.A. Bayona might have the technical know-how to pull them off convincingly. Based on this newest article from the Hollywood Reporter, it once again looks like the film is in very good hands;

It's nice that we will get more animatronics. While JW was, and still is, a far superior movie then JP3 ever was/will be, I must admit that I still find it a bit odd that JP3 had more animatronics. I remember reading/hearing something that the decision was based on how SW7 had a balance of practical effects and CGI. Hopefully, the finished movie gets the same balance that the first 2 movies did.

Bayona talks more about the sequel's direction :

We caught up with A Monster Calls filmmaker J.A. Bayona today for an exclusive conversation in which we talked about his next gig directing the still-untitled Jurassic World sequel!

We brought up how all the Jurassic movies have an undercurrent about exploitation and commercialization of these animals, and asked if there will there be a similar pseudo-political subtext to this one.

“Yeah, you’re right,” Bayona told us. “I think there’s a lot of that in the new ‘Jurassic.’ I think there’s a lot of possessiveness towards our creations. I think it’s very interesting where the new movie is heading. It’s so different from the other films, it talks a lot about the moment we live in right now. It’s darker… but at the same time it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s a blockbuster, you have Chris Pratt, it’s a great adventure, but it’s very interesting the way the film is darker than the other ones.”

We also talked to him about creating horrific scares on a blockbuster canvas versus the contained gothic horror of something like his previous hit The Orphanage.

“You need to adapt, you need to know where you are,” suggested Bayona. “‘Jurassic’ is going to be very different from ‘A Monster Calls’ or ‘The Orphanage,’ but they called me because they loved ‘The Orphanage’ and ‘The Impossible’ and they wanted me to be leading the new ‘Jurassic.’ I think you’re going to find some stuff that will remind you of my movies. At the same time I’m very aware that this is Steven’s baby and I’m going to take care of his baby as much as possible, knowing where I am all the time.”

Not only that, but it is nice to know that Universal has learned it's lesson about seemingly everybody complaining-and in this case, rightfully so-about JW having too much CGI and barely any animatronics.

Casting for Lucy is apparently down to a short list of potentials! So we might see casting for Lucy in the next few weeks. Hopefully a decision is made before Christmas!

Yay, probably the last major character to be cast for the film? I'd say all other roles announced before filming or when filming will only be minor roles..

From this recent interview with Bayona seems like Oscar Faura will be the cinematographer & Fernando Velazquez the composer :

LRM: One thing I like about this movie and your other films is that you’ve been able to keep the same crew with Sergio being one of the few people who didn’t work on this—which is ironic since he brought you the book. Everyone else is working on this. Usually what happens when you make a movie like “The Orphanage,” everyone sees that and hires away your crew and you can’t get them again.

Bayona: When we work, it’s like a family. A lot of them I know from film school—Oscar Faura was a classmate back at film school. The editor I have been working with him for the last 15 years, since I’ve been doing music videos. Fernando Velazquez, the composer, from my short films. These are the people I trust and the people I feel comfortable with.

LRM: Are you going to be able to bring some of them over to your “dinosaur movie”?

Bayona: Some of them, yes. Some of them are there definitely.

I like the idea of Bayona bringing Osca Faura to shoot the film, since his style does lend itself to the potentially dark subject matter of the sequel. Schwartzman's cinematography, while not terrible, diffused a lot of the atmosphere and intensity that Dean Cundey, who shot arguably the most vibrant and beautiful of the JP films, was able to capture in the first film, let alone Janusz Kaminski.

I'm of two minds with losing Giacchino. On the one hand, his music really worked with the tone and sensibilities of Jurassic World and he created quite a few memorable new themes that could have been recurring motifs if he scored all three films. On the other hand, I've been listening to Fernando's music for Crimson Peak and it really is quite a beautiful score. He knows how to command an orchestra and could fill John Williams' shoes just as well if not perhaps better than Michael Giacchino. The hope is that the familiar JP themes will be returning, but we should probably expect new music and motifs for the characters.

Bayona promises new dinosaurs in the sequel!

(ignore clickbait title)

"Claire [Bryce Dallas Howard] doesn’t wear high heels in this movie,” Bayona promises. That will make it easier for her to flee its prehistoric menagerie, which will have some additions. “There will be new dinosaurs,” the director says, and then adds, “Finding that proper balance between what the audience is expecting and new stuff is always a challenge in doing a sequel.”"

*sigh* What is it with these talentless internet "reporters" insisting on idiotic clickbait titles? And the excuse of "more clicks" rings about has hollow as possible.

On the plus side, I hope Bayona is considering bringing Carnotaurus into the next film as a throwback to the novel version of The Lost World.

Seeing some animal rights stuff in the movie would not be surprising given what Colin has said, but "Isla Nublar Rescue" is very interesting. Perhaps bringing blue from the island? And if something needs to be rescued from Isla Nublar, why? Could it be under threat from something like the Napalm bombing from the Novels? Or am I just reading way too much into this? Laughing

I kinda hope that the "rescue mission" implies that Owen is going back (with Barry ideally) to rescue Blue from being trapped on the island and dying in loneliness or to the other carnivores.

Also, a return to Nublar could mean one last chance to see Rexy! But given how her appearance in the last film was described as her 'The Unforgiven' and final battle, we should not expect her to be in the strongest of shape, if we see her alive at all...

I think it's best that if we do see Rexy then it would be for the best to see her eat something and look more healthy. She really did look quite underfed in JW. Even more so considering how she's 44 ft long and 16.10 ft tall.

Ive been saying for quite a while my theory that Blue will probably be rescued.

But yeah this is probably the video game.

I'm basing this on nothing but my own speculation but isn't JW2 supposed to be about using Dinosaurs in different fields of our lives? To me this points to Ingen getting their assets off the island so they can be "protected" and used later. No way Ingen is leaving those valuable animals behind. So that's what I think the rescue thing means.

I don't disagree; I think a new young recurring buck could help change the perspective of T. rex in the franchise. One recurring criticism towards JW was that the portrayal of Rexy was more anthropomorphisized than what is realistic for an animal, with the word "superhero" flying around from time to time. Even the Buck in The Lost World wasn't any near as malevolent as the Raptors, Compies, Spinosaurus and the Indominus in the other movies; he was a father trying to protect his infant. Rexy is the one T. rex that I think has a larger-than-life status, being the star of the most iconic scenes in both JP and JW. And lastly, we don't actually see a T. rex kill any protagonist or "good" character, it's usually the jerks, villains, or their lackies who get offed.

I wonder if a new T. rex that's a truly vicious creature and prepared to kill both protagonists and antagonists would be a welcome change.

Good point, thanks for reminding me.

Still, you can at least see where this argument is coming from, with the T. rex being shown in a more menacing light?

How would you guys feel about seeing her skeleton when they go back to the island? I know that would be extremely depressing but I'd love it. That is if we don't see her alive.

No thanks. Not to say that no T. rexes should be killed at all in the next two films but it has to be done right. Killing the young Bull in JP3 just to make the Spino look cool was not the way, and having Rexy die at the hands of the Indominus (if that idea was ever tossed around) would not have been the right move. And simply showing her skeleton might come across as disrespectful.
