Jurassic Park Portal Builds a Park:

So in this thread, we will create our own hypothetical Jurassic Park. Through polls and discussion, we will vote on every aspect of our fictional park including; the park's name, location, species list, attractions, etc. Together we will build that fantasy park we always wanted. Fan artists are more than welcome to help bring the park to life.

What We have So Far:
Location:
A fictional landscape somewhere in Florida
Species List:
Spoiler:

Next Step- To determine 1. the park's name. 2. to decide 50 non-dinosaur species to add to the species list 3. create a park map 4. Determine the number of animals of each species

Fan art, discussion, and poll/survey taking is always appreciated!

I think this sounds pretty fun. As for location, Islands are an obvious choice because the main concern would be dinosaurs getting loose (which obviously isn't a problem for us). However, islands aren't really conducive to operating cost effectively, and they don't offer any room for expansion (not to mention they are also difficult to evacuate in emergency situations).

My vote would be to put it out somewhere isolated, but still on the mainland.

I agree. What about some place in Australia? A Jungle setting isn't inherently necessary right?

No, I don't think so. I think the ideal place would be somewhere with a relatively stable climate. Australia would be nice because it's so isolated, but it might be too hot.

What about somewhere in Mexico? Maybe in one of the more isolated desert regions.

Mexico doesn't sound bad. What about southern Australia, farther from the equator? From what I'm looking at, there is a decent climate near Tasmania and in the east.

Since Jurassic Park is on a fictional island, I also think it's reasonable that we're able to make a fake location as well. Just a thought.

Dang, I was just going to say Sorna, but you guys got me beat. If it's a mainland concern, and you want it somewhat on the mainland, why not somewhere other than mexico? Which is clearly land locked, hot and arid. But also makes it very easy if a dinosaur were to escape for a mainland breach into USA...and or alert them of a potential developing threat.

Also let's assume that we have endless money for this and can buy any plot of land we want. Let's just avoid going over major cities/famous spots.

And I'll give us a couple of days to come up with ideas for locations before starting the poll. Once we vote, there is no turning back.

I think it needs to be separated from densely populated areas, because say in JP San Diego, the T.Rex gets out. Now you have a T.Rex roaming in the heart of a big city. So there should be some space between busy areas and the park, so that our Asset Containment can capture animals without too much risk.

Let's also think of cost effectiveness. We'll presumably be a western or westernized company so we don't want to put it in an area that's potentially hostile to a workforce. Middle of the Amazon is too hazardous with workers between the druglords, bad climate, and diseases. We also don't want a place so hopelessly remote it be hard to get tourists down there. Gotta be comfortable for guests too.

If we want a mainland spot that's remote, I vote a peninsula in a temperate climate zone in a western or western friendly nation (like Japan or Philippines).

Why not Venezuela? would be as perfect place for these animals, a tropical climate would share just a little north of Ecuador, within the limits of the Amazon in large wet grasslands and plains with large river basins. Touristically attractive also for people and very insulated containment function of species. In the movie "Dinosaur" these landscapes appear in the first few minutes.

Works for me if local government isn't a problem, otherwise I'd say put it in south, western Florida. And since got unlimited funds, we've bought up a chunk of coast or peninsula to put the park there.

Price doesn't matter out of simplicity, so we don't have to go check how much it costs to buy a plot of land in specific areas and all that junk. If we want to have fun and think like park creators, then finding a cost effective area is still a good idea.

I think my problem with florida is that it is really swampy in the everglades area. I just imagine someone building there and how difficult that would be.

So, right now we have:
-Australia
-Mexico
-Florida
-Venezuela
-Amazon
-Sub Saharan Africa

Any other suggestions before I make the poll? Also in the mean time we don't have necessarily discuss just the location. If there are any other aspects of the park you want to talk about, feel free! It doesn't have to be one step at a time.

My best bet would be Florida. Already has very good access and agreeable environment. And despite our reputation, there are still big swaths of the Florida very far from any city. Even Disney World is surrounded by forest on multiple sides. So the problem with the attempted San Fransisco park is easily avoided.

Also, we should try to come up with a name for our fictional company before we start building the park. We could even build up some lore if we want. Just ideas to think about.

I believe that there are two possible locations that would be ideal for Jurassic Park;

The Azores

Jurassic Park in the Azores would be built on a currently as of yet uninhabited large island that the Portuguese government will be willing to lease.

I believe this to be the perfect location for JP as the average air temperature varies between 11-26 degrees Celsius depending on the time of the year and the surrounding Atlantic ocean averages between 15-25 degrees Celsius; just right for both the visitors and all of the Mesozoic animals that will be living on the island. And as the islands are prone to rainy days due to its location, the modern and prehistoric flora will remain healthy consistently.

This location is also perfect for Jurassic Park, as it is both isolated from the world and at the same time a stone's throw away from civilisation. The Azores are located 950 miles west of Lisbon, so the mainland has absolutely no need to worry about the animals reaching the mainland! But the islands can be reached by plane within a couple of hours, (if there is the opportunity; the Jurassic Park island may even be reached by 3 modes of transportation, ferries, cruise ships and the "bus" plane service that hops around each of the islands of the archipelago!). The islands are also located between 3 continents; Europe, Africa and North America.

And finally Europe has to have another great theme park in order to compete with North America. North America may have Disney World and Universal Studios, but Europe has Jurassic Park; the 8th wonder of the modern world!

Hawaii

Jurassic Park in Hawaii would be built on a fairly recently formed large seamount that was created by underwater volcanoes in 1953, roughly around the same time when James Watson and Francis Crick deciphered the structure of DNA, and is located around 10, 20 or so miles south of Hawaii island.

Like the Azores, Hawaii also has the advantages of being isolated and very close civilisation, inter-island travel and access to 3 modes of transportation. However the Jurassic Park Hawaii has other advantages that may be more favourable than the Azores;

The climate in Hawaii is tropical, although because of the trade winds, the temperatures and humidity are less extreme with average high temperatures of 27 to 32 degrees Celsius and average lows of 18 to 24 degrees Celsius. The average annual rainfall is 433mm, which will also keep the modern and prehistoric flora and fauna very healthy.

But should the worst happen on the Jurassic Park island such as an Indominus Rex Incident, Hawaii, specifically the island of Oahu has US military bases. They will be able to co-ordinate a safe as possible evacuation and "retire" the rampaging animal/s.

(Sorry for the large size of the images!)

I like the idea of building it on a fictional island in The Azores. I'm not a fan of doing it in Hawaii because the movies are filmed there and I'd like to see something different. Razz

I am really loving the Azores idea. The questions are,
1. how do we get people and supplies there? Fly them to the island, ship them to the island, or go JW style and do both?
2. And what do we name the islands? Should we name them after the park?
3. Will there be A site B? It is a very good idea.
4. How far away will the island be from the rest Azores archipelago? 30, 40, 50 kilometers?

Florida would give us so many meta jokes regarding Universal studios. While the Azores is cool, I do like the idea of us not doing it on an island.
