PostSubject: A Jurassic Park Prequel?   Wed Jan 04, 2017 4:01 pm

Hey guys, know I haven't been here for a while, and I probably won't stick around long, but recently I've been thinking. I feel like Jurassic Park is going to get overshadowed by other franchises if it doesn't expand its universe. I remember in 2015 after December all anyone cared about was The Force Awakens instead of Jurassic World. Now they are very different franchises, but my point is that SW has much more world development, something JP just doesn't have much of.

I know JW2 is supposed to expand it and be darker, but wouldn't it be cool to get a prequel showing the events leading up to the original Jurassic Park sometime after JW2 but before JW3 (or after). We could see more of Nedrys deal being made, John Hammond could get more of a backstory, we could follow individual worker stories. Now I know John Hammonds actor has passed away, but this could be a younger actor, this takes place when building the park, which would likely be in the 80s if I'm correct.

See the other thing is, this franchise doesn't have the best character development, let's face it, JW trilogy may be different, but a prequel would help expand John Hammonds story and just expand the overall lore of the universe. Some may worry a new actor could ruin the character, and I agree, but think of (sorry for referencing SW again) rouge one, which focuses on rebel soilders, much like it the prequel can focus on JP workers, I mean they helped build the place and rarely get any attention in films. I just think if it's done right it would be a cool film to see though. We could see things like a younger Rexy, or the hatching of the Big One, I know building a Park can be a difficult point to make a plot off of, but done right it can progress. After all they made a plot about visiting a zoo where everything goes wrong, why not building one?

Also sorry I kinda threw this together I'm more interested to see the discussion that forms here. Discuss

Yes I wouldn't mind a prequel to JP or JW or both but sadly I doubt it will happen...

I'm down for that. All the big blockbusters are getting prequels.

I'd love to see a prequel to JW. It would not only ensure that that TLW and (unfortunately) JP3 are canon, but it would fill in a huge time hole in the JP movie timeline.

Would love to see it, specially if it's told with Wu's POV. Smile

No. Just as we didn't need JW to be soft reboot, we don't need prequel either. We already know everything there is to know. These kind of things belong in fan fiction, they are just rehashing old ideas for fan service. We need new ideas, not old ones.

I've said it before I'll say it again, I'm still interested in some kind of Jurassic World animated series to bridge the gap between JP3 and JW since there are a lot of unanswered questions from both TLW and JP3 that would act as considerable hurdles for Jurassic World to have happened. The series could be about the reclamation of Isla Nublar and the beginnings of the Jurassic World resort, while the public are shown slowly coming around to the idea of living dinosaurs on display.

However, a Jurassic Park prequel, without any (or very few) dinosaurs and possibly young versions of John Hammond and characters doesn't really interest me. Everything you need to know about the dinosaurs' creation is already shown to us in the first movie and there honestly isn't a need for a movie that does even more showing of the process. Plus realistically, Universal are being relatively restrained in the expansion of the JP Universe, with only a trilogy so far, and we don't know if they would consider prequels or bridge movies, heck we still have no announcement about an animated series. So, as fun as it might be to speculate all we have are the four movies so far.

If JP franchise was treated as Marvel or SW cinematic universe we would right now have 19 standalone sequels and prequels planned for Nedry getting blackmailed by Hammond during InGen's 1988 financial crisis, Tim and Lex going to Zoo, Malcolm being a rock star who starts drinking only to find chaos, and of course crossover prequel between Muldoon and teen Owen in Kenya while game warding there. In between these character movies there would be "people running away from escaped dinosaurs on park/island" film in rotation every year. My brain hurts just thinking about it.

Hmm, no. I'd prefer a book about it.

I'd love a prequel but it would create a few problems as JP1 clearly states there was "1" incident which is the one we see in the opening so a prequel would not only rehash the story of "things go wrong" but mess with continuity, but I'd be all over it.

An interquel set between JP/// and JW would be amazing, I always wanted to see a "clean up" the park movie since the first film and that's what I wanted TLW to be. That one can be made with an entirely new cast and the events can just be kept "secret"

A prequel film would be ill-advised, because the conflict it would require would undermine Hammond's cockiness in JP. If it's a conflict worth focusing a movie around, presumably involving dinosaurs killing people, then Hammond will be a lot harder to sympathize with when he acts all cheery in the '93 movie.
